We live in the world every day. We eat food, drink water, wear clothes,watch TV, use computers and so on. We are producing waste every moment.

Generally speaking, there are four sorts of waste. They are material waste,organic waste, inorganic waste and poisonous & harmful waste. Now, we aregoing to talk about each sort of waste one by one.

Material waste: it means the waste of substance or things from whichsomething else can be made. For example, people throw away the used metalproducts and buy a new one, so the old metal waste accumulates. At last, theybecome waste. For example, when people finish reading newspaper, the paper willbecome waste.

When the glass is broken, it also becomes waste. Nobody wants to use abroken window or drink with a broken glass or wear a pair of broken glasses.Once it is broken, it becomes waste. The rate of using plastics is increasingday by day. People use plastic bags because they are convenient. When they gethome, they throw the plastics way, paying no attention to the environment. Themore convenience plastics brings to us, the more plastic waste is produced.

This is called “white pollution” as most plastics are white. Some of ourproducts we use every day are made of rubber, just like the tyres and the bottompart of our shoes. It’s true that rubber plays an important role in our life.However, it also brings us some trouble when it has been used for a long timeand becomes old. The old tyres become waste because it can’t break down bynature. This is really a big problem.

In recent years there has been a marked growth of fire accidents in bigcities of our country. Almost every day we see fire engines rushing through thestreets. Fires have not only resulted in heavy economic losses but also injuredand killed many people.

What are the causes of fire accidents? Most of the fires are brought aboutby carelessness and violation of fire safety regulations. Others are due to thepoor quality of home electrical appliances. By the way, some people don't knowhow to use them properly. Besides,there are quite a few businesses which focusso much of their attention on profits that they tend to neglect and even ignorefire precautions.

In my opinion, in order to prevent fires we should first of all fosterpeople's sense of fire prevention. The second thing we have to do is to increasethe number of professional fire fighters, to whom regular training coursesshould be offered. Finally, we are to improve the existing fire engines and addmore fire facilities to high-rise buildings. In this way, a reliable fireprevention system will be formed.

Protection of the Environment

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment.There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to beunlimited.

Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are usingup our natural resources,and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals.If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive.

We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon benone left. Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught.Weknow that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, wecontinue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see thatif rivers are polluted with waste products, we will die. Yet, waste productsare

still put into rivers.

We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in afew years, there won't be enough food.What can we do to solve theseproblems?

If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available.Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals arekept.

Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them.

The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methodsof birth control.

Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have abetter and cleaner planet in the future.
